What is GOKB?
The GOKB is a collaborative global exchange platform for metadata of electronic resources (e-journals, e-books, databases, etc.) organised in packages. Metadata in the GOKB includes information about packages, titles, availability, platforms and providers of e-resources. It is automatically enriched, checked for inconsistencies and errors and prepared for data flows. This data is freely and unrestrictedly available to third party systems via an open API.
The GOKB operates under the umbrella of the Open Library Foundation (OLF). The OLF is an association of libraries, developers, designers, service suppliers and providers dedicated to improving library management through shared open source software. It provides continuous access to software code and document repositories, collaboration tools, and administrative and legal services. The GOKB is advised by its steering committee. Since 2017, the hbz and the VZG, as long-standing members of the OLF, and the ZDB have been responsible for managing the service. The OLF and the GOKB work together to identify and implement new areas of development.
Exchange, enrichment and clean-up of metadata
The imported data is automatically bibliographically referenced, deduplicated, and enriched (e.g. with identifiers such as the ZDB-ID, EZB-ID, etc.) and checked for inconsistencies. Based on the conflict analysis, the data is processed and made available in the form of review requests for intellectual error correction.

What are the benefits of the GOKB?
The Knowledge Base provides centralised and standardised access to metadata from a wide range of providers. It helps libraries to manage and identify their e-resources. The GOKB also acts as an identity broker for electronic media by enriching and correlating identifiers. It also analyses data errors through automated processes, thereby improving data quality. The GOKB is also characterised by its collaborative approach. Collaborative data management not only shortens the distance between the creation of metadata and its use scenarios, but also reduces the workload for users. The libraries’ expertise from the libraries is essential for optimisation and further development.
Who uses the GOKB?
The GOKB is used by libraries that need a knowledge base for their ERM system. In Germany these are mainly libraries using FOLIO. However, providers also use the GOKB to give their customers title lists in a standardised format. Providers include SAGE and Preselct.Media.
Materials for download
The GOKB logo is available in several versions. You are free to use it with reference to GOKB, e.g. to include a link to GOKB or in a diagram in your presentation.
When you download the logo, a zip file containing the logo will open. The file contains the formats eps, svg and png in coloured, black and white versions. The logo may not be used for commercial purposes and may not be altered in shape or colour.
