Guidelines for package names

Package names in GOKB should be unique and distinguishable from other package names. For this purpose, the naming scheme is based on the KBART file naming scheme.

The package name should contain:

  • The provider name in a short and understandable form. If the official package name contains the provider name as a component, a separate provider name is not necessary (e.g. Emerald Management 120).
  • The package name assigned by the provider. If the package contains a complete list of titles from a provider, “All Titles” or “Journals: All Titles” should be added to the name.
  • Add information about regional restriction.
  • Add information for consortia specific packages.
  • Add reference year, if package is not continuously offered.

Name components are separated by a colon followed by a space.

In addition, the characteristics specified in the name should be included in the package properties under the “General” tab in a structured manner, e.g. whether a package is “Regional” with an indication of the region or “Local” with an indication of the organisation.

Examples for package names

  • Emerald: Engineering eJournal Collection (‘Emerald’ is short for the platform provider Emerald Publishing, ‘Engineering eJournal Collection’ is the name of the package)
  • Emerald Management 120 (Emerald as provider name doesn’t have to be specified as it is part of the package name)
  • Brill Journal Archive Online: NL NOT: Brill : Brill Journal Archive Online : NL (dthe provider Brill ist already part of the package name; there should be no space before the colon)
  • Preselect.media: Haufe Erziehungswissenschaften 2020, NOT: Content Select: Haufe Erziehungswissenschaften 2020 (“Preselect.media” ist the provider oft the platform Content Select)
  • utb: Transcript Medienwissenschaft 2018, NOT: Transcript Medienwissenschaft 2018(utb GmbH ist the platform provider)
  • Springer Behavioral Science eBooks 2005 English/International (year is part of the official package name of the provider)
  • IOS Press Read & Publish 2024: Bibsam (consortia specific package)
  • Springer Medicine: Asia-Pacific (regional restriction)

Special cases

Platform Inlibra

Inlibra is a joint platform comprising the Nomos eLibrary, the Beck eLibrary and the VDI Verlag eLibrary. The merger will have implications for existing and new packages in the GOKB. Therefore, please note the following:

Naming guidelines

For packages that are created in GOKB before 2026, it is necessary to deviate from the naming guidelines. We recommend specifying the name ‘Inlibra’ in the package name as the provider, followed by the relevant publisher (e.g. Beck), and finally the package name. Inlibra should be specified both as the platform provider and as the platform itself.

Examples of package names:

Inlibra: Vahlen Jura Zivilrecht 2 2025 II

Inlibra: Beck LSW Philosophie 2021

Reasons for the deviation

  • Several publishers are behind the Inlibra platform, aiming to establish a joint market presence.
  • For legal reasons, however, only Nomos Verlag appears in the imprint. However, the internal structure is not transparent.
  • In terms of usability and discoverability, it would be more difficult to search for existing packages if only Nomos were mentioned. Inlibra is well-established within the specialist community.
  • ‘Biblioscout’ also uses the platform name in the package name rather than the name of Wissenschaftliche Verlagsgesellschaft Stuttgart. The supplier code (LKZ) in the e-book pool is ‘Biblioscout’, too. We assume that Nomos and Inlibra are handled in the same way.

Packages from 2026 onwards

From 2026 onwards, Nomos will import the packages into GOKB itself. This will result in a new, uniform ISIL structure and some new cuts with cross-publisher titles.

Inlibra packages prior to 2026

The curatory groups remain responsible for packages prior to 2026. The following recommendations apply:

  • A mass retroactive change to existing packages is not necessary at this time, given the considerable amount of work involved. This applies as long as the automated import links continue to function.
  • However, a change may be necessary if essential package features change, especially if the automated import URL no longer works — for example, if no title list can be found under the URL.
  • If the automated import URL changes to refer to a KBART file on the Inlibra platform, the title_url of the file itself will also change. In this case, the following change is necessary:
    • ‘Inlibra:’ is added before the name of the package. The publisher remains the content provider. Example: Inlibra: Beck LSW Philosophy 2021.
    • The old package name is adopted as a name variant so that the package can be found during a search.
    • The provider is changed to Inlibra in the corresponding field.
    • The platform is also changed to Inlibra in the relevant field.
    • The automated import URL is updated to reflect the Inlibra.
  • Provided that the automated import URL remains unchanged and continues to refer to the former provider’s website (e.g. Beck, Nomos, etc.), or the value in the title_url field of the KBART files refers to it, the package will remain unchanged for the time being. This ensures that the nominal platform of the package matches the information in the title_url field.
  • Please note that if a new value appears in the title_url field of a KBART file, the previous package titles will be archived and new ones created for technical reasons. This may require adjustments in the downstream system.

Platform change Kohlhammer

Due to the platform change of the content provider Kohlhammer from “Preselect” to “Kohlhammer eLibrary”, the package sections have also changed. The packages with the old Preselect sections are still accessible. These packages can be imported or changed in the GOKB as follows:

For a clear distinction between the old and new packages from Kohlhammer, the name form should be package name with the addition [old Preselect package sections] (in square brackets).

Package name for national licences

For licensed packages, the addition is added to the package title: Provider: Package name: National licence

  • Example: ProQuest: African Writers Series: Nationallizenz
